From July 2013 to January 2016, the Department of the Southern Branch Museum rented the Shiang-He Post Office at Puzi, Chiayi County, and used it as the temporary office of the Southern Branch. The Department established the Library of the Southern Branch Museum. It only transferred the Chinese book collection of the Southern Branch Museum from the National Palace Museum to the Library of the Southern Branch Museum, due to space constraints. The information in the Library of the Southern Branch Museum was transferred to the staff of the National Palace Museum. Staff of both Museums can check out the collection from each Museum. The Department started to purchase the hardware equipment of the library.
In 2016, the collection of the Library of the Southern Branch Museum temporarily stored in the National Palace Museum was transferred to the Data Center of the Southern Branch because the Southern Branch Museum was completed. The equipment required for the operation of the Data Center was prepared.
To prepare the collection of the Library, every year staff for exhibition organizing systematically gathered the catalogs and books published by museums around the world that have the same features as the exhibition at the Southern Branch Museum. These staff enriched the collection of the Southern Branch Museum and built it as a data center in Taiwan for the study of Asian art and culture. The Department of the Southern Branch Museum purchased more books for organizing the exhibition at the new Chiayi History Exhibition Hall. In addition to academic books on Asian art and culture, the Department bought books for core collection of Taiwan history and geography. A total of 16,000 books of all kinds are available now.
