Hits:36
In response to the Mainland Affairs Council report regarding a threatening email claiming that the National Palace Museum’s exhibition in the Czech Republic has been targeted, the Museum provides the following information :
- On September 22, after receiving a phone call from the Mainland Affairs Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Palace Museum (NPM) forwarded the information to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague and the National Museum in Prague (National Museum), requesting that relevant parties strengthen precautionary measures to prevent any incidents. The National Museum was also asked to enhance security management, remain alert to suspicious individuals, and report back accordingly.
- The National Museum reports that the exhibition hall remains in normal condition. All artifacts on display are housed in glass cases and are monitored by a 24-hour security system to ensure their safety. The NPM maintains close contact with the National Museum and has arranged video conferences to facilitate real-time communication and response.
- Today, September 24, the NPM held an emergency response meeting regarding the Czech exhibition. Director Hsiao Tsung-Huang chaired the meeting with the Department of Registration and Conservation, Department of Antiquities, Department of Painting, Calligraphy, Rare Books and Historical Documents, Office of Digital Information Services, and the Office of Civil Service Ethics to discuss countermeasures. Relevant domestic departments were also notified to assist in strengthening protections for the museum’s campuses (north and south), exhibition venues, and information systems to avoid any harm.
- The NPM emphasizes that this exhibition in the Czech Republic is a part of normal cultural exchange and cooperation within the international museum community. Its purpose is to promote the NPM’s cultural relics among Europeans and attract tourism to Taiwan. This exhibition has positive implications and we welcome the support of all sectors. The Palace Museum condemns any irrational actions and will take necessary countermeasures. We hope that all sectors will respect the universal values of culture.
