Oil bottle with Inlaid Chrysanthemum Design
Second half of the 12th century
Oil bottle with Inlaid Chrysanthemum Design
H. 3.7 cm; Diam. 8.7 cm

The vessel has a flattened body, flared mouth, wide shoulder, and concave foot. The base reveals three spur marks. The shoulder is decorated with a ring of chrysanthemums—the petals are inlaid in white while the center of the flower, branches, and leaves are inlaid in black. The green, translucent glaze pools in areas such as the interior side of the mouth, the border between the mouth and the shoulder, the edge of the shoulder, and the edge around the countersunk base. This piece, covered all over with natural cracks, was a container for hair oil.
